“The King’s Fifth” is an adventure as well as a history novel that brings us back to the 16 th century. This exciting novel shows us the conquests of the Spanish conquistadores that won over great areas of South America while putting under their command the native tribes.

The King's Fifth is a tale of both a physical journey and a mental This may not seem like very much, but it was enough to drive men mad with lust. Many embarked on doomed expeditions and committed horrific atrocities in search of the precious metal, enticed by promises of never-ending wealth and splendor/5.

The parts of The King’s Fifth that describe the courtroom and the trial are quite interesting, but everything else, which is most of the book, is rather boring. Even a description of a kings fifth book with an Indian tribe drags. I kind of wanted the conquistadors to die right then so the book would be by: 4.

Even a description of a battle with an Indian tribe drags. I kind of wanted the conquistadors to die right then so the book would be over/5(48). The King's Fifth is exciting and very enveloping book.

I like how the book is very descriptive. What I don't like is when they use Spanish words and they don't tell you what the words mean. Over all on a scale of one-five, five being the best, I would give the book a five.

The plot is by: 4. While awaiting trial for murder and withholding from the king the obligatory fifth of the gold found in Cibola, Esteban, a seventeen-year-old cartographer, recalls his adventures with a band of conquistadors.

"The writing is subtly beautiful, often moving, and says more than may be caught in one reading." -- 4/5(3). Plot Summary. Chapters The book starts with introducing Mendoza and Estaban, which are some of the most important characters in the book.

Estaban is correcting a map while Mendoza offers him an irresistible deal. Mendoza says he will mutiny the admiral and sail. About the Book In this deeply affecting novel Scott O’Dell envelops the reader in the heroic world of the conquistadors—a world that is at once somber and many-colored. Though they may have been ruthless, these steel-helmeted young men of Spain lived their lives on the very edge of eternity with style and uncommon courage.

The reason I read this book is because I am a fan of the animated series, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, which is loosely based on The King's Fifth. I was interested to see how similar or otherwise the two works would : The King's Fifth has 1 reviews and 1 ratings. Reviewer Aubob wrote: Great character development on Esteban's half, captivating story and occassionaly pretty funny.3/5(1).
